Counting back from the ceremony

A wedding starts at a fixed date that will not move, so the way to plan it is backwards from the ceremony rather than forwards from the order. How many days that needs depends on the garment, the size of the party and what is already booked, so send your ceremony date and your arrival date and you will get a straight answer before you commit rather than after.

1. The ceremony. Nothing is collected on the morning of the wedding. Leave the day before it clear.
2. Final fitting. The finished suit confirmed on your body, with the shoes you will actually wear. Small adjustments are possible here; structural ones are not.
3. Second fitting. The corrections from the first are checked and the lengths marked.
4. First fitting. The garment is deliberately incomplete so the shape is still open. This is the appointment that decides whether the suit fits.
5. Measuring and cloth. A full measurement session, posture noted, cloth and details chosen. This is the first thing that has to happen in person.
6. Before you fly — the conversation. Dates, cloth direction, the party, and a written quote. None of this needs you in the room.

A shorter trip is possible and means giving something up — the honest version of that conversation happens before you commit, not after.

What to send us before you arrive

Seven things, and the first two are the ones that decide whether your dates work at all.

• The ceremony date and your arrival date. These two decide everything else on this page.
• Measurements from a tailor at home, if you have them. They do not replace being measured here, but they let us tell you in advance whether your dates are realistic and what is achievable inside them.
• A photograph of a suit you already own that fits well. Worth more than any description, and it tells us more in a minute than a paragraph does.
• A picture of the look you have in mind, even a rough one. Ambiguity about shape is where wedding disappointment starts.
• The colour palette, if there is one. Whether the suit has to sit against a specific bridesmaid colour or a particular setting changes the cloth shortlist.
• Whether the groomsmen are being dressed too, and when each of them lands.
• Anything you already dislike about suits you have worn. More useful than most measurements.

Cloth for a beach ceremony

Aim for an open weave in the 210 to 260g range. A high-twist wool breathes, resists creasing and holds a press through a long day, which is why it outperforms linen for a groom photographed from midday until late — linen breathes as well and creases permanently, which reads as character on a guest and as untidiness in a formal portrait.

Mid tones photograph better than dark cloth in bright sun, where black flattens into a silhouette. Ask for the jacket half-lined or unlined through the back: it is the single biggest comfort decision available and it costs nothing. Anything with polyester in it will hold heat against you regardless of what it weighs. Fittings inside a wedding week

The real constraint is not the tailoring but the week around it. There are dinners, arrivals, a rehearsal, family, and a schedule that mostly belongs to somebody else — and every one of those competes with an appointment at a shop.

So the fittings come to you. The groomsmen

The cloth and the cut are fixed once, with whoever is present first, and each man is then measured on the day he arrives and slotted into that specification. That is what makes a party who land on five different days workable, and it is the part nobody writes down. The groom is then distinguished by a detail rather than a different colour: a waistcoat the others do not wear, a peak lapel against their notch, a different tie. What it costs

Wedding suits start at ฿8,500 per person, and what moves the figure is the cloth, the construction and the number of pieces rather than the occasion. A waistcoat, a second trouser or a separate outfit for a welcome dinner are each quoted separately, so the total is built from parts you can see rather than a package.
